Hi,

My girlfriend was diagnosed with PCOS two years ago (she's 23 years old). She had heavy and irregular periods and in some cases couldn't get out of bed due to the pain. We were both very upset about the prospect of not being able to have children. Not long after the diagnosis we tried for a baby. It took about 7 months before she got pregnant (she was not on any medication). Now we have a lovely little healthy baby boy who is next to me now! You can go on the pill to regulate periods, but obviously can't get pregnant on the pill.

Exercise is very good for you and also watch your diet. We went to the gym and watched what we ate and it seemed to work. Also don't beat yourself up if you don't get pregnant for a good few months — just go with the flow and you will be ok. Your only 17 so I wouldn't start a family just yet — that being said your chances of getting pregnant with PCOS are higher the sooner you start, and certainly before your 30's. Just exercise regular, don't eat rubbish food and you should be ok.

The reason I've wrote this is because I hardly found anyone on internet postings with PCOS who have a success story! So there you go, you can get pregnant with PCOS — I know this because my little bundle is smiling at me right now :) Good luck!

To the reader:

I was diagnosed with PCOS after having my first daughter at 17, and was told that I wouldn't be able to have anymore children. 11 years later I'm the mother of three! For baby number two I would take the pill for a couple months to get my cycles working, then I would skip a couple months, or take pills some days but not every day. For baby number three I was taking metformin. Just wanted to put more encouragement out there!
