Alice, I just felt I should respond, because I felt the exact same way when I started college. I almost transfered to another college, and am so glad I decided not to. I felt overwhelmed, like I would not be able to handle the work load. I too, fell in with a group of people who I didn't really want to be hanging out with for 4 years. I missed my old friends from high school, and I missed the control I had of knowing exactly how things were done. What kept me in school was my major. When I started learning about what i liked, it reminded me why i was in school. Maybe you should get a new major, and I stronlgy suggest joining clubs, and groups, etc. I can guarantee that you are not the only one feeling this way. Some of your friends, even those who seem to be just fine, are probably just putting on a front. I don't think you should try to join every click out there, don't change who you are, but try to make friends by being yourself. And if not then just remember what the real purpose of school is to learn and get a good job. Its also one of the last chances you will get to really be stress free. School provides you with many things, even counseling, etc. Please take advantage of all the resources (they gym, the library, everything!) because once you graduate you will truly be on your own. Good luck! and just be positive, view it as an adventure!
