Dear Alice,

In response to For how long should I be in therapy?:

Like in any other profession, there are good therapists and bad therapists, and it sounds like you found one that didn't work for you. I've had one of each... the first one wanted to put me on lots of meds and not really listen to my problems, but the second one really helped me deal with the roots of my issues, and I'm now able to live a healthy and increasingly happy life, anti-depressant-free. Good therapy can make all the difference. Also, like any industry, it's important for the consumer seeking out a therapist to make sure he's getting a quality provider. If you happen to get stuck with the bad, take the initiative to get yourself help with someone who knows what he/she's doing. Do your research and make the right choice!
