Fish-less omega-3 fatty acids

Dear Alice,

I know that omega-3 fatty acids are good for you and found in fish, but I'm a vegetarian and don't eat fish. Is there another source where I can get them?

 

Dear Reader,

Yes, there certainly are! Good sources include:

  • canola and olive oils
  • walnuts
  • ground flaxseed
  • tofu
  • leafy green veggies

All of these foods can supply healthful omega-3 fatty acids, essential fatty acids that our bodies can't make on their own, so they must be obtained through what we eat. Omega-3s also stimulate hormone-like substances that have anti-inflammatory properties. Try including some of these foods into your eating plan every day.
