Alice,
Isn't a man's penis supposed to be able to find the vaginal opening on its own, without manual guidance? My partner said that a penis can never find the opening on its own.

Dear Alice,
I recently had my first sexual experience. I was amazed and somewhat uneasy about how awkward and unnatural the penetration was for my partner. He literally knelt in front of me, guiding his penis with one hand, and trying to find my opening with the other. When I asked him about it later, he said he didn't have much experience with that aspect of it. I asked him what was so difficult, and he said, "well, you don't simply bend down, lean forward, and 'in it goes'." I said, "you mean, never in the history of sex between human beings has a penis ever found the opening on its own?" And he answered no. I find that very hard to believe. It seems to take some of the instinct out of sex. Is this really true?
Dear Readers,
Alice agrees with your partners. Penises aren't homing pigeons, or plugs, that just find their own way into sockets with magnetic-like attraction. They're a part of the men they're attached to, and often need some manual and verbal guidance complete with fingers, lube, some fumbling, wiggling, and a fair share of giggling. Some encouraging confirmation that your lover has reached the desired destination will surely wash away the awkwardness of getting there.
