Alice,

I am looking for the American Heart Foundation's 3 day diet. Do you know where I can get a copy?

— Dieter

Dear Dieter,

It turns out that the American Heart Foundation's three day diet couldn't be tracked down. In fact, there weren't even any web sites or other information about the American Heart Foundation, period. On the other hand, the similarly named and highly reputable American Heart Association does offer dietary guidelines and lifestyle tips aimed at promoting cardiovascular health.

You might be surprised to find out that the American Heart Association doesn't advocate short-term diets. Actually, they warn consumers to look out for programs designed around short-term diets. Lots of organizations and companies make billions of dollars playing on the hope that short-term solutions will solve long-term problems. Research continues to show that fast fixes don't help people meet and maintain their nutrition-related health goals.

For people looking for healthy dietary information, it's challenging to sort through all of the hype. Luckily, if you're interested in learning more about healthy eating plans and nutrition, there are many credible resources available to you. The type of information that you look for depends on your goals. Are you looking to lose weight, gain weight, or maintain weight? Are you specifically searching for an eating plan to promote your heart's health?

You can choose to start your search by checking out the American Heart Association's Diet and Nutrition web site. There, you can find more information on heart-healthy nutrition and suggested lifestyle tips. You can also follow links within the American Heart Association's web site to request brochures and find nutritional referral information in your area.

There are lots of people, just like you, wondering about healthy eating plans, and there is a lot to know in the world of nutrition. So, even though the mysterious three day diet was nowhere to be found, you can feel good about asking the question.
